Sounds like you won't need to be a dick for too long. ;)

So he wasn't even a municipal employee!?

I loved his response "it's not safe".... 'why?' ...... "it's not safe".

At that point I thought a) I'll just grab my bike and carry it through the bush around the truck or b) I'll just sit down in the middle of the trail (blocking them) and wait until they can bring in the proper resources to get me out of here safely (it was equally 'unsafe' to ride back out as it would have been to continue on my way)... then I thought that's what Will would do, so I turned around :-)

According to the construction notice, contractors have been instructed by the Town to turn back any trail users. So they have to be jerks, probably for insurance reasons as opposed to real life reasons.

I have no doubt he was just 'doing his job'. He was just doing it like as ass so I complied like an ass. Very mature eh? :-)

Classic passive-aggressive approach. My preferred option as well. I enjoy the look on their faces when they realize their plight.
