Heading from top of Fairbrook to Edale in thick mist without a compass, got down to the opposite edge only to peer through the clag to see the Snake Road. Tried again, concentrating hard the second time, with the same result. Was both tired and relieved to finally end up in Edale. Alas no GPS in those days.

I've also scared myself doing the same on Black Hill. Always worth taking a compass (and using it of course).
