Such a beautiful place! What a great belated birthday, early anniversary (20th! Congrats!) and no wonder you picked this place to get married! I will have to go there someday!

I too was checking Benoit's result and when I saw that he finished a couple of minutes under 35 hours, I figured that would be top 10 percent! Wow! Tres vite!

We've talked about maybe having a 25th anniversary party up there so maybe we will see you in Algonquin one day!

I don't know how many runners started UTMB this year but 2,554 people reached Le Delevret at 14 km. As is typical, only 1,468 people reached the finish line in Chamonix. Benoit placed 204th of the runners who started the race.

Over 1,000 starters were men aged 40-49, which is Benoit's age category. Only 627 of them finished. Benoit was 69th.

Yes, that would be a great reason to go to Algonquin, with some excellent guides! :)

Just looking at the UTMB results in more detail. It really is a different kind of race. This year there were 1088 drops and 1468 finishers.

Two-time women's champion Rory Bosio was a DNF, as was Andy Symonds, who set the course record at Lavaredo Ultra Trail in June. Many elites were on the DNF list, including Didrik Hermansen, the 2015 Lavaredo champion.

The eventual winner, Ludovic Pommeret, was in 50th place after 40K with stomach problems that had him thinking about dropping out. He finished in exactly 22 hrs with a 26-minute cushion over 2nd place. Moral of the story: Don't give up!

The iRunFar summary is here.

Andy Symonds draws cartoons in his race reports. Here's one from his UTMB report. He dropped at Champex Lac at 122 km - the same place I did. Click on it if you want to see it bigger.
