No one strives for mediocrity. I love it when we get to share the joys of personal successes. I was quite struck by Cristina's comment about how it was totally acceptable at World Masters to be focused on one's own age group as most important, rather than the overwhelming elite focus we have otherwise. Really looking forward to that experience in New Zealand.

Awesome. Blow by blow later, but Anna was great fun, really tough, and rather solid navigational help when I was second-guessing myself. Jon and Peter also had a lot of fun. Gee, these things hurt a lot less when you sleep some....

I just read a little about the Latvian folks. There are stories of perseverence despite injuries, impressive previous accomplishments including ppv WOC and regional championship medals, and one of their best ever relay results this year -- all stories that could be turned into very quick broadcast blurbs once the camera catches them.
