Thank you, Ian. I appreciate your reasonable and thoughtful comments.
I've come to realize that there is a perception that I had some sort of private email exchange with Peter and then shared (though only with a short list of friends) the final salvo without divulging what I might have said to provoke it. That would not have been fair, I agree, and that's not what happened. There was a very limited correspondence revolving around confusion about which board I was on, and that was it. I will paste the thread in here. The email I shared came out of the blue and everything I had said was in the open air on the AP thread.
This is the entire correspondence before the email I objected to. And I didn't respond to that email at all, so I've sent a sum total of 2 sentences.
