Ok, maps and print files are due open-of-business tomorrow. As I mentioned before, I'm most of the way there, but I have some things to finish up tonight, so I figured I'd entertain myself and post here.

Things that need to happen:
-- Update a bunch of little things to Carkeek cartography.
-- Create the SART branding for the Carkeek map.
-- Create the 5 farsta variations for the Finals
-- Create print files for description sheets for all 10 SART courses (includes the farsta), including a few text+symbols ones for the non-orienteers and kids.

-- Design the CYA course at UW (24 control score-o)

Made a bunch of random updates on my second page of notes from today (the last 15 minutes, after it started raining and I wanted to keep the first page dry in my pocket).

Bad news: something is messed up
Good news: it's not in the SART terrain

There's one long trail with a bunch of point features, and I took a laser range-finder out there today and bam bam bam, got 'em all noted. Except that it looks like I had a trail junction 15m off on my original map. And what I had before was 15m too far north, so this is confusing me, because if anything, I would have thought it was too far south. Anyway, there are two smaller trails that are not correct because of this.

Bad news: something else was about 20m off
Good news: I fixed it! Between notes from today + notes from a few weeks ago!

Tell me more about the laser rangefinder. I've never used one but have been interested in trying it out.

You can thank a persuasive GVOC contingent at our wednesday evening training for that DGL sign-up :D

It's about the size of a compact pair of binoculars. You look through a sighting lens and there's a dot in the middle, which you can focus on whatever object you want, and then you press a button and it tells you how far away it is. The nifty feature mine has is that it can tell you straight-line distance (which includes elevation change), but it can also tell what angle you're holding the device and give you an on-the-ground distance.

Yesterday, I was following a windy indistinct trail through the woods, and I came to a large boulder. I could get a straight shot through the woods at a house with an identifiable roof. I took the measurement and angle, and then found the house on my photo at home. Bam, boulder perfectly placed!
