Dolly Sods sounds beautiful. Looks like it is just north of Blue Ridge Mountains. Are ecosystems similar between the two places? I believe that Blue Ridge Mountains were some of the first mountains I ever saw in this country, on that road trip to Florida with you and Guy back in high school.

Yeah, I remember taking a detour through Shenandoah NP, but I think we were headed to Alabama for a VOC A-event at Oak Mtn.

Was I on that trip?

No. The one you were on was to FDR SP in GA in 1997. Where we tormented poor Boris with alarm clocks... :-D

Guy, it's totally possible that we saw Shenandoah NP on a trip to Alabama. My memory fails me sometimes.

@j-man: We took a detour into Great Smokey Mtns NP. Surely you remember how cold and icy it was up at Newfound Gap -- but just cold back down at lower elevations.

That part I remember well. I also remember barely dodging an alarm clock thrown at my head and smashing an apple into Boris' hair.

BTW, 20 years later, it looks like the GNC will be back at FDR...

You have to really try to get to Dolly Sods. It's not on the way to anything.
Worth the detour though!
