Old maps can be really tough since the landscape doesn't always match up with the map. It forces you to choose the best features to rely on, so feeling good navigationally is awesome!

To Siri's point, I don't consider Hale among NEOC's better maps. Close to you, Tyra, and Walter, I'd recommend Prospect Hill, Blue Hills West, Nobscot, and Hammon Pond. Further out, Noon Hill, Upton, Baldwin Hill, and High Rock are solid. Needham Town Forest is definitely convenient. Ridge Hill has a map that's from the early 1980s; it's not the most interesting patch of terrain, but ok for a trail run.
