I've been quite satisfied with my Garmin 410
, which you can find for about $120 on amazon. The touch bezel took a little while to get used to and can be problematic in rain, but you can disable it by pressing two buttons. The lap button and start/stop are both dedicated. I also owned a 405 before the 410 that is functionally identically; the screen broke when I dropped it, but it otherwise works fine.
I have also heard good things about the Garmin 310XT, which used to sell for $250+ but now is $110 on amazon
, though I have not owned one. Both the 310 and 410 wirelessly transmit via an ANT stick. Apart from the risk of losing your USB ANT stick, I have not had issues with this method of download, which happens wirelessly and immediately when I bring the watch into the vicinity of my computer.
