How educational :-). Was there an answer key? Thanks for posting all the accounts of your Alaska adventures, they are fun to read. The photos are great, too.

I didn't see an answer key there, but assume the rangers could have confirmed if needed.

Thanks for following along!

How is Southern California? And studying?

It's good to hear from you, Zan. Your love of life is inspiring (if I have said this before, I hope it's OK that I say it again).

Climate at UC Santa Barbara is perfect for studying - I am not distracted by non-ideal temperature, lighting, humidity or precipitation. Right now I have a bit of time to relax before the start of the classes and read some of my advisor's excellent articles. The classes start in a week, on September 22nd.

From your log it sounds like you and Jonas are leaving San Francisco. Is this true? If it is, do you guys know where you are going yet? I attempted to figure this out from your log and couldn't.

Aw - thanks Misha! That's very sweet to hear. Life is amazing - got to embrace it with both hands, and feet, and arms, and all :).

I'm glad you're enjoying studying there. Hopefully getting to do some of the reading outside.

Jonas and I put our stuff in storage, and are on a 5 month adventure. Not sure where we'll live when we get back. It is hard to leave friends and community (especially circus for both of us, and his sister for Jonas) in SF. But, there are more interesting opportunities for me in data viz elsewhere.

I was reading your accounts of walks in Sutro park and remembering my own walks there with my uncle who lives in SF. It's a wonderful town. It sounds like it became a home for you and Jonas. Now you are leaving. It's a bitter-sweet life, for sure.

Your 5 month adventure sounds amazing, though. Also, it sounds like you enjoy what you do for a living. Is data viz - data visualization? Where are good places to do that?

I can see how one would think that I read outside, since I talk about how the climate here is so perfect for studying. The truth of the matter is that I still read inside, mostly because the desk, the chair and the access to online sources are more comfortable and convenient inside. Still, the mild climate creates the sort of general atmosphere throughout my day that is very conducive to studying. Right now this whole place is like a well-lit library, where I can walk in peace and quiet between desks and bookshelves.
