This article doesn't give specifics about timing, but it sounds promising for clubs that have maps in US Forest Service areas:
Forest Service proposes a “cultural shift” for more access to public lands
Agency plans to streamline recreation permit process
Clearly they are pivoting to a more agile, results-focused strategy in preparation for the election of your new Grand Poobah Trump.
The USFS huge holding in Florida, Ocala National Forest, has always been pretty open for orienteering and rogaines.
However this move appears to be a corporate cultural shift in line with the principle that Florida State Parks have enunciated in the years I have been dealing with them. They state the parks belong to the people of Florida. They do what they can to encourage the people to use the parks they own. Whereas elsewhere some officials might have a 'don't make extra work for me' attitude in Florida state parks the officials usually have a 'how can we help' attitude.
Good on the USFS for declaring the policy from the top down. We can only hope it spreads to more states and counties.
If Chump wins, recreational uses would probably take a backseat to commercial ones.
Trump National "Forest", anyone...?
We'll have all the best trees, HUGE trees, believe me!
And China will pay for those trees.
You folks are so braggadocious!
Hillary deleted 30,000 trees from her private forest!
And they were all classified! Mostly "Oaks", "Pines", and "Maples"
Trump will release his tax returns if Hillary returns the 30,000 trees.
Taxonomy is just another democratic tax! It's a tax on trees! And bunny rabbits! I will make the bunny rabbits great again!
What kind of Maples? Are they Marla Maples?
