I would run for an American team. I would of course prefer to run for an all CSU team.... :) want to join CSU?

I could see this as a possibility.

More details:

Next year's race is the weekend of October 7-8 (Columbus Day weekend) in Tullinge (near Stockholm). We'd need 25 people of varying ages, at least seven of whom are women.

This year's Invitation explains the requirements for who can run each leg (the first two and last two legs should be swapped next year, so that the men and women trade turns having the mass start vs. the anchor leg). I'll try to lay it out here:

Leg 1 (1) - Anyone
Leg 2 (1) - Women
Leg 3 (4) - Women
Leg 4 (4) - No W19-39 or M15-54
Leg 5 (4) - Anyone
Leg 6 (4) - No M17-39
Leg 7 (4) - Anyone
Leg 23 (1) - No W19-34, M15-49
Leg 24 (1) - Anyone
Leg 25 (1) - Women

Legs 1, 2, 5, 24, and 25 are supposed to be advanced difficulty. The other legs are supposed to be "intermediate", and leg 4 labeled "easy" (a good leg for really speedy kids).

Let's nominate some people:

1. Greg A.
2. Sandra
3. Carol, Alli,
4. Barb,
5. Boris, Anton, Giacomo, Ian
6. J-J, Sandy,
7. Biggins, Brendan, Kenny,
23. Cristina
24. Ross
25. Sam

I picked people who either live in Europe or have been known to do wild and crazy things like fly to Europe for a relay.

Sandy:
Room for a slowpoke?

Cristina:
Sure! Who'd you have in mind?

Also, I added you.

Get a fast kid for leg 4 and move Barb in with Sandy and me. Then we need to find one more aging engineer to make leg 6 the Old MIT Alums leg. Likewise maybe move Ian to leg 7.

Sandy:

This would be amazing. I would fix my back just to do this.

I'm interested.

Ok! Tell Ed he needs to get older faster so he can be more useful.

1. Greg A.
2. Sandra
3. Carol, Alli, Alex,
4. Barb,
5. Boris, Anton, Giacomo, Ian
6. J-J, Sandy,

I think Zan would be interested. I can imagine the COC contingent getting excited: Eric, Will, Patrick.

Ken Sr. would be a fine addition, and maybe even PG coming out of retirement??

BorisGr:
Also Karen Williams.

iansmith:
Everyone will look so good in CSU colors.

maybe even PG coming out of retirement??

Stranger things have happened.

I should note that my preferred leg -- the anchor leg starting in a mass start -- seems quite unavailable. :-)

Cristina:
Well, now it's getting complicated (this is a good thing).

1. Greg A.
2. Sandra
3. Carol, Alli, Alex, Zan
4. Barb, Karen, Sandy,
5. Boris, Anton, Giacomo, Ian
6. J-J, PG, Ken Sr., Eric
7. Biggins, Brendan, Kenny, Ed
23. Cristina
24. Ross
25. Sam

Reserves: Will, Patrick

Even with my fantasy picks we'd still need someone else for leg 4 (No W19-39 or M15-54 ). One more year and Melissa would be ok there. :-)

Maybe some of the regular WMOC competitors would be interested? Sharon?

Campbells might be interested...we'd have to emerge from a massive backpacking campaign, but that could be done. Anna (11) is starting to run orange, but is not fast yet. Does she get bonus points for CSU events being her first when she was in the baby backpack?
Oct 13, 2016 11:45 AM #
Cristina:
The Campbells would be super welcome! Anna could totally handle leg 4 and you and Jon are usefully old. ;-) Also, it feels wrong to have a 25manna team without kids on it, so I think that means you have to come.

I dunno where this CSU talk comes from, I'm not a CSU member and this is my log. Maybe everyone should join the Tucson club to make the team seem more exotic.

A CSU-only(ish) team might look like this:

1 - Giacomo
2 - Alex J
3 - Abi, Zan, Karen, Izzy
4 - Ken Sr., PG, Barb, Anna C
5 - Will H, Ken Jr., Ross, Ian
6 - Jon C, Tori C, Matthias M, Pia W
7 - Boris, Brendan, Ed, Biggins
23 - Alli B
24 - Ali C
25 - Anton

If you still need someone for leg 4, I'd be interested...if I'm acceptable. ;-)

I might have a meeting in Sweden (Malmo) around that time next fall. Maybe we can convince Stina to come with me. She is female and sufficiently old (42) enough to be particularly useful.

@Gswede: you will look amazing in Orange and Blue.

This would give me a reason to train! I'm in. Who knows where we will be living then, but wherever it is will have an airport!

Thanks for thinking of me Boris! Relays are the best.
