I had that happen a few weeks ago. Stop the run and I was limping. The next morning it was 90% recovered and by that afternoon it was like nothing happened.
Yeah. It's happened to me several times now. Sometimes it's minor like what you described. Sometimes it's worse and I've had to limp home w/o using the calf at all. Like the time you found me "stretching" in the middle of the forest at, I think, a West Point meet.
I've found that regular calf stretching does help. And running on mid- to forefoot helps, too. Running heel-toe is risky because if I happen to drop a heel into a hole it can overextend the calf suddenly. That's been the cause too often.
Yesterday it wasn't that. I think it was the combination of adding more weight to my squats on Weds and then doing intervals on Thurs. The squats don't really work the calves, but they do stretch them on the way down. As usual... add weight more slowly, and allow adequate recovery time.
