When I needed a break from planning, I would run over Memorial Bridge, down the mall and around the Washington Monument, and back along the Potomac. 7 miles, national parkland, completely epic. One of the great perks of the job.
I usually had a breakthrough on whatever was stumping me by the time I was past the halfway point. 30 mins is apparently what it takes...no idea how many slides to simplify our complex problem set were cooked up that way. Perhaps a reason PT should not always (or only) occur at 0630!
It was a trip through the Domestic Affairs Forum to the Pentagon and Eisenhower Executive Office Building to meet and discuss current events with former SOSH instructors, Army personel (Undersecretary Patrick Murphy), National Security Counsel fellows, etc.
That sounds totally awesome! DC never fails to inspire!
