I see that you did both intro-level courses and did pretty well--congratulations. You beat a good number of people who probably had more experience. You can see what some of them did on the courses at Route Gadget.

If you can follow a compass bearing and read big features, maybe you're ready to try something harder like an Orange course. A rule of thumb is to be completing courses at one level at 10 minutes per kilometer before moving up to the next level. A more precise but subjective measure is how well you felt you knew where you were on the map at each point along the way, or even whether or not you were making big errors getting to controls.

Wow, that Route Gadget is interesting. I'll have to spend some time checking it out. Thanks for the tips, I'll try Orange next time.
