Just 2 days left to submit applications for the 2017 U.S. Orienteering Team (Sr.). I was hoping the same information that was sent to Clubnet and both the new and old team mailing lists would eventually be posted here and on the OUSA web pages - including the application forms - but that hasn't happened. So I've posted the docs here for everyone's convenience and asked Janet if she can post them on the OUSA site somewhere. I've also converted the original .odt formats to both .pdf and .docx. I've eliminated a postal mailing address from the docs (as noted) for privacy, but other addresses and phone numbers in the docs are already publicly available on the OUSA site, so I left those in. However if you're planning to submit via post you should probably let Linda know, as there won't be time for delivery by the deadline.

The original post sent to the mailing lists is included below. The members of the ESC appointed Team Selection Committee are listed here, as are the three primary criteria for selection, which are taken directly from rule G.1.6.2 of the Rules of Competition. The first one is fairly obvious, but I have no idea what the other two might mean. It would be nice to know what the Selection Committee members think these mean since they will be the ones making the (subjective) team selections. Otherwise team candidates are left to guess, although at this point its probably too late to do anything differently. There isn't even a place on the application form for athletes to make a case.
For example, I'm not sure whether posting this information publicly (as it should be) would be considered "dedication to the sport" and "demonstration of a sporting attitude," or exactly the opposite. I guess its down to the opinions of the Selection Committee. In any case, in the interest of open communication across all channels, here is the original post that went to Clubnet and the team mailing lists:

Hi Team and Team Hopefuls,
Now that the 2016 O season is over it's time to get ready for next year. The National Team Selection Committee is standing by to begin deliberations. Members of the committee are Kristin Hall, Patrick Nuss, Eric Weyman, Peggy Dickison and Tori Campbell.
We will use same format as last year, you will need to declare your desire to be part of the 2016 US Foot-O Team. To do this you will need to read, fill out, sign and return the Team Application and Athlete Agreement (attached below) by November 15, 2016. An electronic signature is sufficient. Please let me know if you are unable to open the attachments.

Upon receipt your name will be forwarded to the Selection Committee for consideration. The committee will make selections based upon the following criteria:
The results of national and international competition.
Dedication to the sport of Orienteering.
Demonstration of sporting attitude.
If you would like to bring anything to the committee's attention please include that when you send in your application, the more information the better. You can also send additional information directly to Kristin Hall: kristinandy95@gmail.com
This is an open letter to any interested applicant. Feel free to share it with anyone who is a possible team candidate and encourage them to apply. There is no firm limit on the number of Team members, the decision is based upon the aforementioned criteria. On November 2, I posted the announcement and forms here, and posted a tweet which is currently the second entry in "latest tweets."
