I've seen a lot of examples of hostile signs and driveway pavement wrongfully scaring people away from not-yet-abandoned ancient highways and from conservation area accesses. The southeast entry into Five Ponds (White Memorial in Litchfield and Morris) is an example. The cut-de-sac has more No Parking signs than a university town. The old stage coach road (leads to Charlie's "backyard") at Devil's Elbow is a driveway example, as well as the old King's Highway (17th century description of a foot path) bordering my property that the neighbor paved over (I settled with him with a reciprocal easement agreement when the town showed no interest in the fight).
