You'll find some sympathy here - the impression I get is that if the American component of Attackpoint were a state, Hillary would have carried it by a bigger margin than DC.

Confirms my theory that it's more acceptable to be sexist than to be racist.

The problem is that if the American component of attackpoint was a state it would be the worlds smallest state. Andthe republican State administration would find some way to gerrymander the electoral districts and put the polling booths in such out of the way spots that the democrats would lose anyway

Australians can hardly complain - you elected Tony Abbott. Not quite as bad, but not far off.

No, I didn't.

That's a plural you obviously. Liggo was complaining about 'Americans' electing Trump - well 'Australians' elected Abbott. Just saying.

Sure you (singular) didn't vote for him (or his party) personally (that's pretty much a given on AP, so much so it is hardly worth mentioning) but 'Australian society' did.

Yeah you have somewhat of a point mr Plowright, but trump makes Abbott look like a saint. (Then again, trump isn't a religious wacko, so he's got that going for him). And we came off a couple of very disappointing PMs and people didn't vote for Abbott they just turned away from Labour. As it turned out Abbott made the labour PMs look great but there you go. And apart from those unfortunate voters in Waringah, nobody actually had to tick a box against the Abbott name. A fair bit of the blame for this goes onto the US voting system as well, which is a product of their crazy constitution.

I guess the bottom line is that everyone in the world is a moron except those who think just like me :)

Oh come on - the vast majority vote for the party and/or the leader not the local member. So just because you put a tick against another name it doesn't mean you didn't vote for Abbott.

And the US system may well be crazy but even saner systems are producing similar results - Abbott, Brexit, Marine Le Pen will be a serious contender at the next French presidential election, even here in Japan the prime minister has written a book idolising his grandfather who was jailed as a WW II war criminal before the Americans let him out as they needed lackeys to build a stable govt against the communist threat, and now wants to restore Japan to some of its former glory - Make Japan Great Again if you will.

You are right though - everyone in the world is a moron except you and me.

The problem isn't that most people are idiots, it's that most are apathetic (or totally disillusioned).

Heartening to see that nearly 4 million Americans voted for a sane, non-megalomaniacal candidate, despite a system that does its best to prevent such candidates from even appearing on the ballot.

The real tragedy of last week was not Trump - it was the passing of Leonard Cohen who died the day before the US election. He got out just in time.

Hello Ace.

Had he lived he would at least had the option of avoiding Trump by returning to Montreal.

Trump's victory is less baffling than Sam Mitchell receiving an award for which one of the criteria is fairness.

Wow - bet you didn't realise how popular you are Liggo. But you have gone all shy - just when I am dying to know what you think on so many issues:

Is sexism more acceptable than racism?

If you were living in America would you move to Montreal?

Is Sam Mitchell an undeserving Brownlow medalist?

What song would you have played at LC's funeral? (The most obvious choice of course was 'Death of a Ladies Man' but I would have gone with 'Don't Go Home With Your Hardon')

Tower of Song?

And a suggestion for a new national anthem for the USA.
