never mind trophies, I expect there are a few orienteering areas around Kaikoura (if there are any) which won't look the same again!
Some serious work required to get the coastal highway open again by the looks.

I'm not actually aware of any orienteering anywhere near Kaikoura - it's all too hilly and too remote. The nearest I've been was the World Rogaine Champs a few years ago in Cheviot which is fairly close to the epicentre of the quake - no doubt quite a bit of damage around there.

It'll certainly take months to get the road opened again, and it wouldn't be a big surprise if they gave up on it as the main route to Christchurch. Very lucky that the quake was at night as there's sometimes a lot of traffic on that road.

That field where the cows were stuck on an island looks like a very interesting orienteering area now.
