I can just imagine how confused some of the road runners, or even trail runners, in SA would get with these instructions!
I think the entries were almost entirely orienteers, but also they run the same race every year, so some people know the route pretty well. I think fell running can involve some navigation as well (I haven't done any yet) so most of them probably would have coped OK.
Quite a few fell runners - including many fell runners who look upon orienteers with suspicion - although even orienteers have got lost on it in the past. This yearne person ended up at Malin Bridge, and 2 people DNF'd as they didn't want the embarrassment of their extended time (courtesy of getting lost)
Really? How on earth did they get to Malin Bridge? I guess I don't know many of the fell runners yet.
