Apparently there are some very cheap seats available from America to Europe for travel next spring, like $500 round-trip from and to many cities. This might be useful for any Americans planning spring European orienteering.

Having (North) American fans at WOC 2017 in Tartu, Estonia wouldn't be a bad thing:) At the moment, return flights JFK-Tallinn (28.06.-08.07.) start from $511.

Americans are probably the only people in the world who do not pay attention to international currency fluctuations. The $US is up - way up - against the Euro, GB Pound, $ Cdn Chinese Yuan and pretty well everything except the Japanese Yen.
Add to that the collapse of the price of crude oil and of course products like international flights should be seeing price drops. So should orienteering equipment imported from Europe, products at WalMart and everything else you buy.
But if you are an American orienteer and want a real travel bargain plan to attend the Canada 150 Orienteering Festival in the Montreal / Ottawa area in late July / early August. Right now every $1 US gets you $1.35 Cdn.

Plus you also get a Canadian orienteer with every American dollar spent.

Americans who write cash-flow projection software for multinational corporations pay attention to currency rates. It's been nightmarish over the last few weeks as the markets try to figure out who the real winners and losers will be under Trump. (And exchange rates are a zero-sum game; there will be winners and losers).

The upward push of the $US started a little over a year ago and coincided with/ resulted from the collapse of crude oil prices. When there is any uncertainty around the world the investors love the $US and dump the rest.
Right now we Canadians snow-birding in Florida are big losers but with gasoline selling locally for $1.95 / US galon that softens the blow a tiny bit.
