I was in Austin a few years ago when Texas beat Kansas in basketball. At the time, Kansas was ranked #1 or #2. I picked up a copy of the Austin American Statesman and was curious to see how they covered the big game. It wasn't on the front page, so I went to sports. It wasn't on the front page of the sports page. That was devoted to a high school quarterback begin recruited. Nothing on the 2nd page of sports either. Nothing on the 3rd page. Basketball coverage started on page 4 of the sports section.

I see that Texas fired their coach today. I guess you'd have to consider yourself lucky to last a week after losing to Kansas.

Scheduling Connecticut might be a good move for a team in those straits.

Charlie, that is in the spirit of optimism, and I like it, thinking that Texas even would know where Connecticut is. ; )

Well, if they want to win games, they should make a point of finding out. Of course, they don't have to find Connecticut. Connecticut can find them just fine.

I think Connecticut is way too good. Just barely in the bottom 20. UMass on the other hand...

The game is quite the experience, as long as you are content to watch mediocre (at best) football. They have the largest TV I've ever seen --

Their band makes a lot of noise --

And they get all excited about this dumb cow that must have been drugged, didn't even flinch when the cannon went off or the fireworks boomed. Apparently it was the 100th anniversary of the original Bevo, so the whole halftime show was about feats of the various Bevo's over the years.

When it was over, they fired Charlie in a matter of hours. Everyone could see that coming. My brother and his friends expected it, but they said the university could make a really strong statement about what was important by keeping him -- he is supposedly doing a fine job of developing young men with good character. But you have to win.

It will cost the university about 18 million in buy-outs for Charlie and his staff.

Almost the final Bottom 25 rankings.

UConn moved up (down?) to 14th, but still no match for UMass (6th) or Kansas (3rd).

I think UConn would do better in a dynamic system that gave more weight to the second half of the season, during which (among other feats) they went 16 consecutive quarters without a touchdown.

UCONN and Kansas have something relevant in common: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lew_Perkins
