I reckon it's 99% about the fees. We can run at a Saturday event for $8 and minimal travel. Put the word "State" in front, and it goes up to $20+. Sunday's PASC event was $25 less than the almost identical event in the morning. It's a no-brainer.
And if I run a local "Sprint " at $8 entry only 25 people enter. Thats not fees.
Excuse my ignorance, but why were 2 events in competition with each other on the same day...?
Does sound like a great, professionally-organised weekend of sprints; I did think about coming over but it clashed with a work Christmas function I'd already agreed to go to!
Fixtures emerge rather than are planned. The Sunday afternoon Park and Street series is a new (and quite innovative) series funded by a government grant. This was on the fixture well before the Sprint weekend request came in from Melbourne. There were contractual and social contract obligations to run the Park and Street event. This program paid for the map as well! And we made an agreement with one of the land managers to run a public event as part of our gaining access for the Vic Champs. The P&S Challenge event allowed us to meet the land owner expectation, and to justify the map funds. All in all it was a win win.
