I think the key to preparing for PT2017 will be to focus on the most difficult aspect of the event:
1. Remembering the skipping rules
2. Remaining mentally strong despite crappy terrain.
I'm not sure how to practice 1 in Texas. To work on 2, I'd suggest you collect some spear grass seeds. Fill you pants with spear grass and go through a regular day wearing spear-grass-filled pants. I'd start with one full work day a week. Gradually increase by either adding a day, or filling your underwear instead of your pants with spear grass.
2. is not a problem because a), I already regularly find random bits of speargrass in my socks and underwear and b), I tend to run first and ask questions later, which is how I learn that a relatively "benign" green briar is actually barbed wire.
1. is going to be more problematic as my brain continues to collect fried neurons due to the inanities of managing a rowing club and working at a university. I'm getting supidityer by the minuteness.
