OK mate, after realising I have made it most of the way through 2016 without entering a race I thought I should try a bit harder in 2017. And since I am heading down your way it looks like Adventurethon is a good way to kick off the new year

But the key question is what bike should I bring down? I sold the Anthem (again) so I have to choose between the Scott Scale and the Tallboy LTC. Is the course so technical that it is world lugging 6" of suspension on a trail bike up the hills so I can pin the downs? Or should I just bring the Scale and go sideways a lot.

Scale will be fine, but the downs will be a Lot more pleasant on the dualie. Think pine log steps, granite and laterite lumps etc. But then you'll spend 2/3 of your time riding uphill or in non-technical terrain!! Personally I'd use a dualie given the choice as I'd feel limited more on the Scale, despite it being lighter. Holding back on descents is free time gone wasted.

Cheers, I will probably bring the duallie down as that will be more fun. and an easier ride after what will be my longest paddle in over two years.

Are you planning to be in town that week? and is your foot up for a cruisy recon ride before the race?

Yes, and yes foot is absolutely fine for anything other than impact/weight bearing. Well worth a recon ride. The paddles broken remember, 2k run at the 2/3 mark. Makes it a bit easier I think. Recon the main run too, essential to save time - but just the rocky shoreline bit.
