Discussion: 2017 Summer ARs?

in: Adventure Racing; General

Two-part question:

1) Does anyone have the official dates for 2017 versions of the Raid in France and the XTrail?

2) Are there any other summer expedition races (June-August) that aren't on the AR World Series calendar, and if so, what are their names, locations & dates?

Thanks in advance!

To early?

Strong Machine:
Raid has posted their dates. June 3-10:

I have it on solid authority that XTrail is roughly if not exactly the same time. It hasn't been announced though, so maybe that changes.

For other events, have a look at the Euro webpage.
The Viking Raid is in August
Czech AR is at the end of August into September.

I've been scouring as much if not more than is healthy as the ARWS calendar doesn't work for us at all this year and I keep hoping for something exciting. As far as I know this is about it, at least in the mainstream AR world.

We've heard that both Raid and XTrail are running in the first week-ish of June.

Um, one house, two adventure racers, sleeping kid...

Breakdown is intriguing but probably too early...LegendaryRandy, do you have any inside word on if/when Norcha is happening?

No, but I can ask.

Primal Quest is early Sept.

@StrongMachine: Do you have official dates for any summer 2017 races in the Maine mid-coastal region?
Dec 14, 2016 3:46 PM #
Haha, so you noticed we haven't posted a date yet for the Maine Summer AR? We had to change dates last month from July to June, which is what has caused the delay. 90% sure we will have a 10-12 hour race (and a shorter 3 hour race) on June 24.

As a shameless plug for the three readers of this thread, this year's race is going to be pretty gnarly and awesome, if it all comes together as expected. Point-to-point race, sea kayaking, constant navigation, big route choice decisions.

We also heard from Troy that Race the Phantom is going to be the first weekend in August, with a potential 40-hour version this year. Sounds pretty epic.

Thanks! - Helpful info for one of my favorite pastimes: obsessing about next year's race schedule.

Having done the inaugural MSAR and 2 Phantoms, I heartily recommend both events

Cali Cowboy:
CHINA is open for REG. JUNE 2-11 2017. Don't see any info on prize money, but entry is only $2,000 and they cover accommodations and food. Last year I got a round trip flight from SFO to Altay for $900.

is that right...$2000 per team...USD?

I remember reading last fall that the prize money and crazy subsidies were not going to be offered again. Still, great deal if that's it and I'm so bummed it's not an option for our schedule:(

Yep US$2k per team and with accommodation and meals included, it's still a bargain. Shame I cannot commit to anything like this at the moment!
