The clear frozen lake sounds neat. I grew up on a lake, but it was rare for the ice to be clear enough to see through. The story of running in the cows reminds me of my time in Calgary. I remember too fun masters orienteering near Neuchâtel years ago; lots of lovely woods to run through. Maybe see you in Colorado again some time?
It does sound beautiful. Rarely we have clear ice on the large beaver pond behind our house, more often if it is cold enough for ice we also have snow on it. And then a few less fortunate winters it doesn't freeze enough to be safe to go on.
