How did you feel before the race started?
The days before, lethargic and sleepy. I dont think the taper served me well, just gave my body an excuse to shut down. I think I should rather err on the side of tired from workouts than tired from lack of workouts, though. That morning, warmup seemed to have no effect. then when i did a few intervals before the race, did not feel sharp. I pretty much sensed what was coming. On the other hand I have felt like death all the way up to the start line, and then had a standout race. But that was nerves I think, and this was ennui.
Good question. I think you nailed it. Don't know what to do about it though. Was thinking a couple of hard workouts to shock the body into race mode again.
Btw, how did you feel before your PMETR pr?
In the days leading up, I felt unprepared. Although, my workouts felt good. The morning of the race, I just felt rushed since I failed to pay close enough attention to the clock. Leaving the line, I was about as relaxed as I've ever been at the start of that race. I didn't think I was ready for the hills so as SuperKate put it, no worries, just running.
I have found pre-race anxiety, loss of expectations and concomitant relaxation can be very helpful. Not sure if it is in the case of PEHS though:)
