I've worked on increasing my cadence (and interrelatedly changing my form) for over two years now, and it's been very good for my distance running. I'll be spending a good bit of next year doing the second bit: stride length.

Speed work can't hurt. Strides! Strides! Strides! Fartlek! Tempo! Not like I'm doing anything right now ... but ..
