How the heck did they make Nordic skiable at all? Did they get some kind of dusting? Or was it crust skiing in December?

No dusting, just scratched up hard pack, lots of debris, down hills require good control technique, other than that very good conditions in some spots.

Good control indeed! Sounds like suicide to me. Some of those Nordic hills on the Blue Loop are significant, even in the best conditions. Can't imagine skate skis on those glare-ice downhills, even if 'scratched up.'

I did avoid the one super hilly section for the calmer green loop.
Good training to learn control, skate turning, snow plowing and just good overall training. Need MORE SNOW!!!!!!!
