Nice map, and good luck with the plans. The Holy Grail! :)

Cool to see ChesCo. putting out this excellent data! Philly has good GIS data, too, as I'm sure you know. This Wissahickon Map is from the Philly streets data + PA Lidar, via Karttapullautin + OCAD and some monkeying.

I edited a version of Karttapullautin to run in Linux, and added some scripts to do the downloading and chopping up of PA Lidar files to run across a cluster (when it's not otherwise busy), so I can do Karttapullautin maps (nice DXF contours) very, very quickly. I need to convert the latest version to Linux. I also need to test some automagical OSM > Karttapullautin importing, too. Once that's done, I could render the whole state, I guess.

Fun, fun stuff.

I agree. This is great! You should also ping Greg Ahlswede, who like Hugh, has done a lot of Karttapullautin. The three of you should put your heads together to do something really groundbreaking in our area.

Philly does have great GIS data. I've use it recently to do some phase one environmental investigations. They keep adding too it all the time to which is nice to see.

It might worth waiting a little bit to process the whole state since I am hoping that they will fly the state with LiDAR. That is hoping there is funding in the states budget for that in a year or two. They should have done it now but that's a different story.

Anyways if they dont fly it I think it would be easiest to go somewhere and have them put the LiDAR files on a couple of hard drives. This would avoid all of the need to download them from the web.

I need to look more into Karttapullautin so I can automate more the LiDAR processing. Something on my to do list.

Another area that has great GIS data is cecil County. You'd have to talk to their GIS department to get a lot of the data but i have use it and it is pretty awesome.

Cecil County would also be great for us!
