I really did figure you or Dave would run 80 minutes. I knew you'd done a lot on Saturday and guessed you'd wilt in the heat, while Dave would run about 80.

I got to 80 by figuring I ran about 90 with a couple of minutes lost to the misplaced last control; a couple of minutes lost to bumping into horses on the trails; and a couple of minutes lost to running in some crappy woods on the way to 6. I also guessed you or Dave would handle the heat better than I did.

And you didn't think I'd lose time screwing something up? Looking at our late race splits, it appears that we handled the heat pretty much equally. Strangely, David, who insists that he was toasted and half walking the end of the course actually had the best time over the last few controls. I think he was moving faster than he claims.

I just read your latest analysis over at carolsteam.org . I think your route is best, even if it isn't necessarily fastest. I think my route is fastest IF the horses weren't on the trail. I think the advantage to your route is that it is easy running. Running along the road would save some strength for later in the course.

It didn't feel very easy at the time...
