why don't you organise a working bee to clear ..
I had that thought (don't know how many orienteers are friends of Belair NP) but I sort of get the impression that DEWNR are basically decommissioning those steps - they are quite unsafe now and would presumably cost too much to fix.
I do like the photos of the women in the early 1900s alighting from the train at Long Gully Station with their long skirts and parasols, to descend the steps and picnic by the creek at Long Gully.
I actually lost the path last time I went through there (probably 9 months ago now) and bush-bashed down the hillside before finding it again. I hate to think what it's like now!
