I tend to do them between dinner and bed, often last thing but not exclusively so. I think the important thing is to make sure you gradually get used to doing the stretching regularly. It will get easier, both the stretches themselves and the actually doing it, I promise you!

I think my first evening after Devil's Burdens was much easier on my back due to the stretching, still agony the following day until I got moving again. It is helping...
