He's local but never runs on the main paths, just yomping about in the terrain. Consequently he probably knows all the trods, deep heather and borrow pits better even than Andy Howie!

Comparing routes with my Holmfirth team mates showed how much of a difference my orienteering experience made. I wouldn't normally expect to beat Julian Rank. I would be interesting to see which way Dave Soles went.

All I know is that he was heading up to the 3 knolls path from the gully control - which judging by your gps trace you did as well!

No I skirted low, bit rough underfoot but a few trods. Simon H followed me; James and Simon C took a line in between mine and yours which was maybe a little quicker
