Maybe easier if you only hit the lap button after two lengths, or is that what you do?

Yup, that's what I do. It's easy enough to figure out though since I swim at just about the same pace the whole time - right around 1:30 for 50m, maybe 5 seconds towards the end but that's usually because my toes are cramping and I kick funny so not as efficient a stroke.
