I only changed the battery a couple of weeks ago so i'm inclined to believe that the outlook for the HRM is bleak.
Very tempted to get one of these, that way won't have to worry about strap not working when running. Will still need one for cycling though!

I've been tempted by those too.
Unfortunately in negative degrees I tend to wear my watch outside my jacket so it's not much use for about 4 months of the year then.

I got a Forerunner 235 towards the end of last year. I haven't really been using it enough to validate the HR monitor. I feel that I do have to wear it quite tight around the wrist so that it doesn't slip - this could be annoying if your wrists swell while you run. There are a lot of features on it that I haven't had much chance to look into - for example you can download 3rd-party apps to the watch! Synchronisation is over a Bluetooth connection with the Garmin Connect smartphone app.

I have a Forerunner 235 - but the HR readings are very unreliable. The optical reader "button" is a also a bit uncomfortable. If I was buying again I'd go for the 230 and a chest strap.
