At the start line, the emcee announced 'Bent as the guy to beat, putting a big target on his back. After that, he felt obligated to look the part!

Barrie really blew it up over the top. He also warned the bikers they may get passed by me, and there's no shame in that...
I think he did know the caliber of the field, and knew that there weren't any hardcore young runners there, but he does tell a good story. Heck, he's paid to tell good stories on TV and does it very well.
He also told the story of how Bash and I ran to his talk and then back 16k in the dark.

I figured I'd put in a hard finish, even though there was nobody behind me.

And it was only 12K each way to/from his talk - but he did tell the crowd it was 16K. :)
