Enjoy your trip!!!! Can't wait to read about your adventures on Canary Islands:)
Wow, I didn't realize this was coming up now!! Have a great trip and a great race!!
What an adventure you guys will have!
Thanks! @CO, that's probably because I didn't telegraph my intentions by doing long runs and stuff. :) This is going to be an interesting "vacation ultra" where I rely on base training and see how it goes. I just want to finish and see some cool terrain. The rest of the time is about having fun in a new place with friends.
On the flight over, I listened to a podcast with Tim Tollefson, who was 2nd at CCC. He called Transgrancanaria (the 125K distance) "brutally awesome". He almost DNFed. Apparently, it is quite technical. Even in the 82K distance, I'll start in the tropics and move into rocky, dry volcanic terrain. I'm pretty sure snowshoeing is the best training for that sort of thing. ;)
The "having fun in new places with friends" plans sounds very enjoyable! Hopefully the "brutally awesome" isn't too brutal.
What Carbon's Offset said! Plus, I hope there's really awesome food, too! It looks like you're off to a good start with that giant chocolate bar.
How about the Canarian ice cream???
Gee, you really know how to pick your races for the fine destinations! I think I'll be picking your brain soon on doing some of these longer things in fun places. I'll need to figure out a way to keep the kiddo entertained longer so I can train for them, minor detail...
Have an awesome adventure!
Thanks for the good wishes!
@Abizeleth, sadly I didn't buy that big chocolate bar.
@Cristina, absolutely. In fact, we have one bed open in our villa until Monday. Come on down!
Ha, if only!
Ok, so just for giggles I checked the prices -- it's winter vacation this week in Oslo and Gran Canaria is a very popular destination for Norwegians, so the direct flights are either sold out or a wee (very) bit out of my price range. Give me fair warning for the next trip!
If it's the same thing - and perhaps it's not - I saw the giant Lindt thing at shoppers but it was five regular bars in one giant box.
That's exactly what it is, Super. It just makes a good photo. :)
Cristina, I should have thought of you! It's just a twin bed though so you, Melissa and Lukas would have to flip for it.
