electric bikes are heavy AF and speed limited to 25 km/hr. as if that's going to help!

given the speed difference between Glen and I going downhill I wouldn't be much closer to him - he was half my time on the timed descent.

also the people I overtook going uphill were all men, some were walking the first climb.

I hate it when commentators say those sorts of things. Sexism ain't dead! :P

my new anthem has made a massive difference to how well I keep up - probably halved the speed difference downhill.

Its still amazing how many guys have major issues getting passed by a girl, although there's not much they can do about it if they're not even riding their bike.

they were all pretty friendly, some of the guys I overtook numerous times as everytime we went downhill I let them passed.

I do wonder how much a duallie would make downhill, Glen reckons my technique will be better on my hardtail but maybe my confidence would be better on a duallie. My technique isn't actually so bad - it's just being a bit scaredy cat.

Also - trying to work out ideas for Easter, any suggestions for WA/ Queensland mtb / road trips??

Ricky and I are going to Alice Springs for Easter to do the MTB muster (3 races). Kay is running MTBO training too. Alice has some amazing trails! I can't wait!!

oh really - Glen suggested Easter in the Alice so that's a real possibility and be cool if you guys were there too. I'm also pretty tempted to try find more flights to christchurch and just bum around for a week or so!

Yeah, we are all booked to go. Over there from the 12th to the 19th. Thing is we haven't booked our accommodation yet - trying to skimp on costs. Christchurch sounds amazing tho - got to give NZ the credit for their magic dirt! :)

I'd guess we'd probably just take camping stuff - depending on just how hot it might be
Feb 28, 2017 3:29 AM #
Depending also on whether you trust your bikes not to go walkabout from the campground? (We - and many other rogainers - found Alice Motor Inn on the eastside to be cheap but not too dodgy.)

Thanks for the tip, what we've done before is hire a forester like ours and then just lock them in the car - but that still carries the risk of the car being broken into.

Dammit Jennycas! Alice Motor Inn is fully booked out :( :( :( not much available that is cheap. Loads of them looking pretty dodgy. Especially photos of the pools misleading with one guy surrounded with 5 pretty bikini gals. Haha got to love Backpackers.

I don't think all electric bikes are speed limited to 25kph. I used to have them fly past me on the commute home from work when I could be doing 30+.

If you haven't been following the news for a few weeks it may have escaped your attention that a significant part of the Port Hills got burnt in a bad bushfire. One of the locals told me that this affects a big chunk of the Christchurch MTB tracks.

most ebikes are speed or power limited as sold. that doesn't mean they can't be hacked, or you can't DIY something a lot more powerful.

Wasn't planning to ride in Christchurch, rather than fly to Christchurch then drive further afield (poss back to wanaka, but Queenstown flights crazy expensive). Alice springs also sounding a good option though
