I don't know much about swimming as cross-training for running, but wearing fins seems like it should be good for building up leg muscles? And regular swimming would seem to be good for the core (and shoulders).

What I did read is that aqua-jogging doesn't build up strength, but does prevent you from losing muscle for up to 6 weeks. If my foot doesn't heal soon I may have to bite the bullet and start doing some. Maybe I'll just do laps of the lazy river...

I'm going to try the aquacize class on Thursday evening if you want to join. It's free, and at a time when I can attend, which is a winning combination. Hopefully it will be a decent full-body workout with all the benefits you mentioned.
