found this article about gary patton's training http://www.runnersworld.com/masters/gary-patton-pl...

at time of article, only ran twice a week for a total of maybe 10/15 mpw! lots of cross training. ability tails off dramatically at longer distances. I was reading this, remembering my mile pr set off of a period of a lot of cross training, and thought 'hey, this sounds a little like me!' (not the national champ part of course)

O Steve!:
I am going to check out this article....aging has lengthened my recovery time to the point I cant get in the long runs and intervals training I want to do in a week....I am likely going to look at 2 week cycles

O Steve!:
just read the article.....I had to chuckle...he is saying some of the same thing i have concluded about training as I age!....he is just is twice as fast as me.....

but its also interesting that I have always said that my shorter efforts stack up better in age grading and the Daniels formulas than my longer efforts. Some of that is likely my short twitch/long twitch heredity and I am sure its also about my training emphasis.....like him I prefer shorter and faster in all my endurance sports as opposed to longer and slower....thanks for posting!
