Discussion: Flying West

You're going to be treated to some spectacular scenery crossing the Sierras on your flight west. Look at these aerial photos of the deep snowpack this month! Interesting article too.

Those are some nice pictures. Alas, we were on quite a large plane, 10 seats across, and I never saw anything outside. Instead, read and watched movies. A look out the window would have been a nice diversion.

Interesting, they are essentially using LIDAR to measure the snow depth, and comparing it too the bare earth data, which means there is LIDAR data for the whole Sierra Nevadas in CA. Send in the mappers!
