I cycled up that road once, it was not enjoyable and coming down was just as bad. There is a nice footpath parallel to it going up to the wind farm if you are ever there again.

The one I ran up? Yeah it was horrible just on and on with no one gradient to settle in to. Wil have a look in to it as it may start being my monthly run up this way when the weather is too manky to get up Ingleborough

There is even an o-map of the wind farm area. http://www.sroc.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#298. Good for compass bearings as I think the rocks are about 1m high. I remember some nice woods to run in on the other side of the Lune to Caton but I don't think they were very big.
Much rather run up Ingleborough though.
