Hi guys,

I am looking for recommendations on a cyclocomputer that is suitable for adventure racing. Something that is relatively survivable, and is approved for use in most events.

A large, easy to read display would be nice, but survivability and approved for use are most important.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Carl

I've been using the Cateye Padrone for the last 2 years in AR and MBO. Nice large display and robust too.

The Garmin hub wireless speed sensor is way better than the spoke magnet types. Longer range and more reliable communication. Several cyclo computers can connect to them.

I have a Bontrager computer that uses the Garmin speed sensor. AR-legit.

This is very helpful information, thanks everyone!

Brent can I ask what model Bontrager computer are you using? They list a few units on their web site.

Bontrager Trip 300. My 'bent bike has a much greater sensor-computer distance than regular bikes, and this combo has worked well while lots of others failed. The sensor also talks to my Garmin Fenix 3 watch.

Rumor has it that bike computers have been banned for AR (by the ARWS)...is this true? Wondering if I should upgrade for Raid Gallaecia.

There was some discussion about it at the athlete forum at Worlds last year. I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere. The current ARWS rules state non GPS-based cyclocomputers are acceptable.

It looks like the Bontrager Trip 300 is the one. Thanks everyone!

Thanks JayXC.

Here are the revised race rules if anyone's looking for them:

Seems like bike computers are still on the list of allowed gear (I don't why pedometers aren't, in that case, but rules are rules, I suppose).
