We've been a bit delinquent on letting you know about everything that's going on with our flagship event this year. We're still 4 months out from the event so it's not too late to change that right? We'll post regular updates here between now and the event at the end of July.

First of all, a quick overview:
We have 9 events over 10 days - lots of great orienteering to do including the Eastern Canadian Championships, a bunch of unique fun events in the middle, and the Canadian Championships at the end. There's also the Sass Peepre Camp north of Montreal during the week and the Canadian Champs Conference.

Check out COC2017.ca for more

Hints ahead!

The COC sprint terrain has lots of very cute little features, many of them, like bridge below, built as Algonquin College projects (which has a campus in Perth). Now here's to hoping there isn't this much water in August...

What is Retr-O? you ask. Retrospective Orienteering, perhaps.
In this case it is a re-running of the very first Canadian Orienteering Championships courses. That original event was held in 1968 in the Gatineau Park.
Thanks to some great people at DVOA, yes DVOA, copies of the original maps have been preserved in mint condition. We are creating replica maps to reflect trail realignment and beaver work over the last 49 years. But the courses, the map scale 1:20,000, and B&W colour (color) will be the same.
Are you up to this look back? There will be three retr-O courses, equivalent to elite men and women and 'veterans & juniors'
For the less adventurous there will be a standard 'B' event with the same event arena on the grounds of the beautiful Camp Fortune Ski Club.

Retro punching as well? Or black and white maps with electronic punching?

Good question about punching. I got overruled on the punching. It will be e-punch which is just as good because to be authentic l would have to round up some 30 conductors' ticket punchers. Those orange/ red clippers didn't come around until in to the 1970s.
Another departure from the 1960s is that l'm looking in to using Livelox for live tracking of participants. That will depend on the quality of cell phone coverage in that part of the park.
Livelox will probably be used at the night-O so spectators can sit in the golf clubhouse sipping on a cold beverage watching their friend's icon on the large screen TV while the friend races around in the dark.
