A brilliant inov 8 pack that you can pick up for about 8 quid online- I use it to carry my phone to work. It it's perfect for gels you don't know ur wearing it.

I've definitely benifited from gels in the marathons and training runs that I've done...that said it poss best not to try something u haven't tried on race day..

Of all the marathons I have spectated I would say London would be the most difficult for a spectator to get a gel to you a lot of places it is more than 3 people deep. Only place is where I normally go which is Blackfriars (I think that's the nearest station) which is about 19mile. You can normally squeeze one in to the smallest of back pockets - better to have the option.

Thanks both. Dave - silly question but is the inov8 pack worn round the waist over or under vest? Does it need to be tight so doesn't move around? Looks like a good option will probably buy one, thanks. I've had a few gels in training, only one per run though, thinking I may need another in the race.

Charli - do you usually watch in more than one place at London? Neil is planning his spectating route!

Either, the straps are so lightweight you wouldn't feel it on you skin- I've tried LOADS specifically for this purpose and its defo the best I've found.

I had 3 gels in Berlin the first time (mile 7,14,21)

But took 4 with me last year. Psychologically it helped having something extra.

I actually took an official race gel the first time when I was struggling and it set my stomach off.

Certainly worth knowing which gels you get on with

I normally now just spectate at mile 19. When gaz ran the first time we spectated at 4 points across the course (mile 3, various bits of canary wharf and mile 21ish) but gaz couldn't hear us (crowds are quite noisy but he was also probably in the zone) and only Rob could spot him as only one of us tall enough to see over the crowds. Me and ingers are coming to cheer you on we just haven't discussed where yet.

Ok thanks for advice :) seems safest to carry the gels.
Charli - looking forward to seeing you and ingy - let me know when you've decided where you'll be and I will know to look out for you!
