I've found that orienteering rarely offers me a chance to change my mood. If I start out grumpy, I'll just get more grumpy. If I start out happy, I just stay happy. Sometimes I can enter the course in a fairly neutral state of mind, like for big competitions and stuff where I've actually done the work to clear my mind, and then I'll manage to keep emotions out of the game and just focus on the process, but that takes actual work...

Good job with achieving your goals, and swapping that mindset partway through!
