Don't beat yourself up too bad about yesterday Len. Batsto can be humbling terrain. If you lose focus even briefly it can be tough to recover. The long leg from 1-12 was interesting. I basically chose to go straight but looking at it afterword wondered if I should have taken the trail to the left for the first 3rd of the leg. Trails in the Pine Barrens don't always pay off though because the sandy surface can make for tough running.

Ah, just replied on your log.
Yeah, its a learning experience.
I came off 11 straight at 12 until I got to the 3rd trail then took that to the road for a few paces and hopped over to a trail which I took (cutting off big zig-zags) to a trail that passed 13. My plan was to run 13 to 12 and back to 13 using the same route.
Nice plan...
I see the trail bend you attacked from. not the one by the shooting range.

I just looked at the splits and I was in first (briefly) after 5 controls. Makes me feel good that what I put together over those 5 legs was good stuff. I really need to focus on the entire run. There are times on a course I let too much time go by without doing any advanced planning or map contact and that usually gets me in trouble.
