What are they? We have speculated they are cousins of Joshua Trees...

Are they cabbage trees?

If so then it seems they are the same family as the Joshua tree -- a big family but nonetheless I think that still makes them cousins. :-)

Yes, cabbage trees.

Cabbage, hunh? Who knew? Thanks!

I mean, it's not like they grow cabbages (totally different family!)... though that would be cool!

No, it seems like they grow yucca...just in a slightly more elegant manner than those crazy joshua trees!! Although we've seen a few that aspire to such craziness.

Now if we can figure out what the gampies (birds with black and white like magpies, only reversed) are really called, we'll have our major NZ flora and fauna questions resolved!

Apparently they are Australian Magpies. Hunh!
